First of all, it is the only boat that is known as a “Party Boat”. However, if you need additional reasons there plenty. Attaching a canopy makes your pontoon boat ready for an afternoon cruise with family and friends by providing shade from the hot sun. For the fishermen; you can get built in livewells, rod holders, and bait buckets. The deck of a pontoon boat also makes a great platform for fishing with the buddies. It is also an ideal boat to use for scuba diving. Some models are even fast enough to pull the kids on water skis, wake boards, or tubes.

These boats are also available with freshwater and toilet facilities.

What is a pontoon boat made of?

A pontoon boat is a lightweight vessel. The hull of the boat is constructed of tubes called pontoons, which taper in at the front of the boat. This allows for better movement and speed in the water. An aluminum frame attaches the pontoons to the deck platform. The deck of a pontoon boat can be made out of wood, aluminum or fiberglass. There is a railing all around the deck for safety. This comes in useful for the occasions when the boat is used for party cruising.

Where should I take my pontoon boat?

The best place to cruise on your pontoon boat is in a lake, river, or other calm water. They are not made for the sea because of its shallow hull. Waves over two feet will be washing on to the deck of your boat. So I would stay away from the rough waters of the ocean.

The Different Types of Boat Lifts

Boat lifts are used to lift the boat and store the boat above the water surface. Boat lifts are generally of two types. They are i) Hydro hoist model and ii) the Air-Dock model. Boat lifts are manufactured keeping in mind the different sizes of the boats. Boat lifts work on the principle of lifts and hoists. In Hydro hoist type model there are float tanks that have a drain fitting at the bottom which is always open to the water. The boats are lifted with the help of hoists that are driven by heavy motors. The Hydro-Hoist boat lifts are of several types such as Boat Floater, Econo Lift and others. In the case of Air Dock the pressure of air is required to uplift the boat to a certain height above the water surface. With Air Dock type boat lifts there is a water tank which is filled and evacuated with the air pressure. Here the air is pumped in from the atmosphere to force the water out of the water tanks thus lifting the hoist. To lower down the hoists, one should vent the air pressure to allow water to fill the again tank. Generally a motor with a blower is attached which is about the size of a vacuum cleaner motor. These motors blow the air out of the float tanks. Each tank has a hole at opposite ends, where the hose is attached. These holes are about 4 inches in diameter. An electric switch is used to turn on the blower and a valve. To raise the boat lift the valve is opened and the blower motor turned on. It can be left on until air bubbles are out of the 4 inch holes, this is the maximum lift that can be obtained. Once the boat is lifted to the desired height the valve is manually closed and all the air is retained in the tanks. When the boat is to be launched the valve is opened and the captured air from the tank escapes past the blower and the lift settles into the lake.Different new technologies are adopted regularly to enhance the working principles of boat lifts. These new technologies are a floating drive-on dry lifting system which makes existing technology obsolete. Fully portable, changeable and modular boat lifts will work in shallow water or deep water, fresh, tides or salt water, currents and even waves. These boat lifts have the power to lift boats of different sizes, from small boats to large watercrafts. Drive-on floating docks even replace those traditional lifts, boat hoists, davits & trailers and provide a convenient dry-dock for stern drives, outboard boats, inboard ski boats and jet boats of all sizes and shapes.

Is it Easy to Create a Boat Design?

People have this curiosity in them to know how hard it is to build a boat. It is necessary to know that there are different levels for building a boat, some are extremely easy and some are extremely difficult.

The first and foremost thing we check is the line of the boat. If the boat has a circular bottom than it would be a tough boat to build and it’s simply the other way around in case of flat curves.

The next thing we need to consider is the hull of the boat. We can use CAD that is Computer Aided Design to avoid any sort of incorrectness in the design. The moment we build everything in harmony with the drawing, the hull automatically would fall in place.

Now, if you want to build a modern boat, all you need to know is how to read a tape and make marks with pencils.

Next in line comes the skill of cutting a straight line with a handsaw. For this you can use circular saw, table mint saw, table saw, power mint saw and even radical arm saw. This job is not very tedious all you need to do is be a little careful while cutting.

You should also know how to use and set up a power plane, drawknife, hand plane and disk sander. This activity requires more of intuition than skill. Also drilling holes and using wireless screwdrivers should be your forte.

Finally what matters is how you blend the epoxy. Even this does not require much of skill just your capability of following directions.  Epoxies should be blended in right proportions to heal appropriate with complete force.

This is all one needs to make your own boat. It might sound false but that’s actually about it. Now in the end one has to believe that there is nothing magical in building a boat.

Finally you must remember that decent boat design software helps you to build the boat of your dreams.
