Types of Remote Control Boats

Remote control boats come in all shapes and sizes. Each type offers something different – sailboats are for lazy, relaxing afternoons, while racing boats offer an adrenaline rush to those who are looking for excitement.

Sport boats. Sport remote control boats are the most popular type among hobbyists.

Scale boats. These are replicas of full-size boats. Models can be only a few inches long, or weigh up to hundreds of pounds. The more skillful the builder, the more the model will resemble the original, with details such as planked decks, chrome or brass fittings, and cloth flags.

Sailboats. Like their full-size counterparts, remote control sailboats catch the wind with their sails to move around. Models are usually controlled with a multi-channel radio transmitter. Sailboats come in a wide range of sizes – some even tower over 4 feet above the water.

Racing boats. These boats are designed for maximum speed and maneuverability. There are two main types of racing hulls – three-point hydros and V-hulls, which require different water conditions.

Power boats. These are usually electric or internal combustion, while some are steam-powered. Powered remote control boats often have additional remote controlled functions to improve realism, such as sounding fog horns and rotating radar antennae. Power boats come in RTR (ready-to-run), ATR (almost ready-to-run), and kit versions.

Combat boats. Combat boats are an offshoot of the radio control model warships hobby that involves the firing of projectiles at opposing ships to sink or damage them. They are actually designed to be sinkable.

Airboats. These boats are powered by an airplane engine and prop mounted high above the stern. Their hull bottoms are, if not nearly, flat. Steering power may come from a water rudder, vanes on the fan, or both.

Deep V-Hulls. As their name suggests, these boats have hulls in the shape of a V, usually 150 degrees or less. They are capable of slicing through rough, choppy waters while maintaining their speed.

Getting Started with Radio Controlled Boats

Radio controlled models appeal to the kid in all of us, though serious hobbyists will make a distinction between hobby quality models and the toys of their youth. If you live near a lake or river, then radio controlled boats provide a fun way to hit the water. You can race them competitively or just sail them for recreation. Be careful to avoid bodies of water that have weeds in them, as these can get stuck in your rudder or propeller and slow down your radio-controlled boat.

RC boats are a best-selling branch of the RC toy development. They are produced in a wide variety of shapes varying from small and steady cruisers to lightning fact racers and their popularity goes along to soar up. The conception of a toy boat is not precisely new. After all, toy boats have been around as long as teddy bears

The captivation with RC boats is not only their lightness on the water, but also their complex gathering process. Sure, people take plume in the trophies and ribbons gained in water races and tournaments, but most of the RC boat operators are equally proud of the workmanship of their marine admirations.

It is this sense of pride that has assisted pushes the toy market into making a large number of RC boat model kits that come across the skill sets of different groups of people. Generally, RC boats come in three varying models: builder’s kits, ARR boat kits, and RTR boat kits.

Gas, Electric or Nitro?

Broadly speaking, radio controlled boats fall into three types. Electric boats are the cheapest, but also the slowest, and get slower as the battery power depletes. Gas powered boats run on regular auto gas, and can reach speeds of up to 45 mph. They are the most expensive type of remote controlled boat, but can run for up to 45 minutes on a single tank of gas. Somewhere in between are nitro boats, which run on a blend of alcohol and oil especially designed for sport vehicles. The boats themselves are usually cheaper than gas boats, but the fuel is more expensive, so they could prove to be a false economy. Another disadvantage is that they are very noisy, and banned in some areas for that reason. However, they have the advantage of being easy to operate and running on full power throughout the lifetime of a tank of fuel.

What Do I Need To Run a Remote Controlled Boat?

Most remote controlled boats come as a complete kit, with batteries, fuel and a battery charger, though batteries and fuel will need to be purchased separately once the initial supply runs out. Some nitro boats also require a starter kit. This is usually supplied with the boat, but not always. If you are buying your first radio controlled boat you are better off looking for one that comes ready to run straight out of the box

Radio Control Boats

Ships and boats, yachts and submarines have long been the subject of fantasies nursed by the young and the old. The waters of the seas and oceans hold many secrets which to the mind of the hobbyist were shared by the sea vessels that sailed on them. One yearns to be part of the mystery and adventure that surrounds sailing. A very select few can afford to own sea faring yachts and boats. The rest of us live our dreams by owning ship or boat models that are fashioned after the real ships and boats.
Made to scale boats can be made to sail with the help of radio control equipment with which they are fitted. Such radio controlled boats can be operated remotely with the help of a multi channel radio transmitter. The radio transmitter is in the hands of the operator while there is a corresponding receiver on the boat. Signals are sent to the radio receiver on the boat by changing the position of the two joy sticks on the transmitter. The receiver on the boat is connected to two battery operated electric motors. Signals received from the radio transmitter which is handled by the operator are translated into instructions to run the motors as per directions.
With a host of websites and companies now offering ship and boat models, they are able to offer exciting deals backed by comparative rate studies.
Models can be handcrafted and made of wood or acrylic or a little of both. But fact remains that astute care is taken to deliver a finished and aesthetically produced boat model since it can be expected that one who would want to own a boat model for the love of owning a near original piece would settle for nothing less than a near perfect look alike. Radio controlled boats however have to be treated with more care since one cannot have water entering the motors on the boat.
Although boats were considered a necessity for transportation until several years ago, today they are more a form of recreation and an indulgence towards a hobby. Granted that actually sailing on a boat is an experience an adventurous person would love above anything else, the technically oriented opt for the radio controlled variety of boat models to add to their collection of antique water-worthy artifacts.

Radio Controlled boats offer all the thrill of racing across the water, easy navigation and remote controls.

Wooden Boats – Are Wooden Boats Really Better?

Boats are an object of desire for so many people. Whether they have the money to buy a boat is a separate question, but all the same, economic question is not a lid on the dreams and aspirations of people. Indeed, some people think that if they made a lot of money, they would buy a boat and retire, so in a sense, buying a boat is an idea that propels them to success in career and financially too. Now when it comes to buying or building a boat, a lot of people wonder as to which is the best material for the boat to be constructed of.

There are so many materials available to make the boat of, and yet over the ages and even now, wooden boats are indeed acclaimed as some of the better boats that there are. There are a few reasons for this, and it is not without reason that wood reigns as the material par excellence for boat building. For one, if you consider the strength of the material, you will be amazed to know that wood is stronger for its weight than steel, fiberglass and aluminum. Sure, you can get very strong steel, aluminum or fiberglass, but it would be so heavy that it would just not float. After all, a boat needs to float, doesn’t it? So wood is great.

Wood is quite lightweight too and is excellent for flotation. True it can rot somewhat, but if you use some epoxy and fiberglass at the bottom of the boat, it would weather the elements quite effectively and last well for many years indeed. There is no wonder why over the ages, wood has been used extensively for boat building. You can easily fashion wood into a floating vessel that can give you joy and pleasure for many years to come, justifying the use of boat as an excellent boat building material.

Fast Model Boats

Model boats are not those items that you build and leave sitting on a shelf for all to admire, they are actually model boats that can be driven with a remote control. This is more than just a kid game as there are competitions all across the world. Model boats can be powerboats that have an electric, internal combustion, or steam powered.

The boats are fun to create and then place in the water and watch them go. The majority of the power boats are created with kits whereas the builders then add their own radio and gear to actually get the boat and in the water and flying at speeds of over 50 miles per hour.

There are also racing power model boats that are designed especially for maneuverability and maximum speed. Racing is done in various water parks, lakes, rivers, etc… with buoys placed strategically for the racers to maneuver around to the finish line. In most cases, the oval is about 1/6 of a mile and has 330 feet of straight sections and 70 feet diameter turns. For competitions, the International Model Power Boat Association and the North American Model Boat Association have rules and regulations that explain the race rules, formats, and the course. However, instead of the oval race there are also many straight races as well.

In this race, the winner is the fastest boat on the water, not the one that must make it around the water track. The speed is determined with a starting light and an ending light, which will be the difference between the start and the finish. For competitions, the International Model Power Boat Association and the North American Model Boat Association have rules and regulations that explain the race rules, formats, and the course. One other race is one in which the boat is being chased by another boat. The winner will be the one that completes the few miles course against the clock.

The good news is, if you cannot find a competition nearby you can now find many videos of several fast model cars at UTubeVideoClip.com. Here you will be able to see all the competitions, amateurs trying their hand at model boat racing, and of course, other videos to do with model boats. You will be able to sit and enjoy all these fast model cars right in your own home, instead of searching out for a race close to home.

Not only will you be able to view all the videos, but you can also upload all of your own fast model boats videos and let others see all the fun you are having with your model boats. Don’t let everyone else have all the fun, create your own model boat, get out there, and race while a friend captures it on film.
